Sean Abbott starred with the bat, ball and in the field to power Sydney Sixers’ to one of the most remarkable victories in BBL history, a tense two-wicket win over Brisbane Heat at the SCG.

Apart from taking a four-wicket haul in the first innings, he stunned the fans with ‘one of the catches of the decade’.

It all happened in the fourth over of the match. With the Heat reduced to 13/2, opening batter Chris Lynn smashed a Ben Dwarshuis delivery wide of cover, but Abbott somehow made ground, dived, stuck out his right hand and plucked a blinder to send the Heat captain packing.

“That’s the catch of the summer,” Fox Cricket commentator and former Sixer pacer Brett Lee said.

Sixers beat Heat in a low-scoring thriller

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Heat could only score 105 runs.

In reply, the Sixers too were reduced to a score of 47/8 in 12.5 overs and looked destined for defeat. However, the home team’s ninth-wicket pair of Abbott and Dwarshuis pulled off a remarkable partnership of 59 runs to take their team over the finish line.

Abbott scored 37 not-out, while Dwarshuis remained unbeaten on 23 as the Sixers sealed a thrilling win on the last ball of the match.
