Cricket Australia (CA) chief Nick Hockley has backed the idea of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) head Ramiz Raja to have a four-nation T20I Super Series among India, Pakistan, England and Australia. However, Hockley has proposed a slight change, stating that CA can stage a tri-series that Australia will host featuring arch-rivals India and Pakistan.

“Personally, I really like the tri-series concept. It’s worked well in the past. We’d be very open to hosting … matches. There are really big communities of both India and Pakistan living in Australia. It’s a contest that everyone wants to see in world cricket, and if we can help support further opportunities, we would love to do that,” said Hockley while talking to reporters ahead of the second Test between Pakistan and Australia in Karachi.

In January, earlier this year, PCB chairman Raja had proposed the idea to hold a four-nation cricket tournament with a proposal that all the respective nations would host the quadrangular series every year on a rotation basis.

“Hello, fans. Will propose to the ICC a Four Nations T20i Super Series involving Pak Ind Aus Eng to be played every year, to be hosted on a rotation basis by these four. A separate revenue model with profits to be shared on a percentage basis with all ICC members think we have a winner,” Raja had tweeted.

Notably, India and Pakistan haven’t played a bilateral series since 2012-13 and have only met each other on a few occasions in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup. The fierce rivals last met in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where the Babar Azam-led side defeated the ‘Men in Blue’ by 10 wickets to claim Pakistan’s first win against India in the ICC World Cups.

Overall, India and Pakistan have played 132 ODIs, and 9 T20Is against each other, in which Pakistan have won 73 matches while India have managed 55 triumphs and four games had no result. When it comes to the shortest format, India are ahead with seven victories out of nine games, whereas Pakistan have only two wins to their name.
