Former India opener Virender Sehwag became victim of misinformation on Saturday when he wrongly congratulated Hima Das for winning gold at the ongoing Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022.

Sehwag took to his official Twitter handle and captioned a pic of Das while congratulating her for bagging a gold for India. However, the truth is that the athletics event hasn’t yet started at CWG 2022.

Sehwag did realise his mistake soon and deleted the tweet, but netizens were quick enough to notice the blooper as they trolled the 2011 World Cup-winning player for spreading misinformation on social media.

In a now-deleted tweet, Sehwag wrote: “What a win! Indian athletes have totally arrived. Many congratulations to Hima Das on winning gold in the 400m at the Commonwealth Games. Fakr Hai.”

After deleting his tweet, Sehwag congratulated Sanket Mahadev Sargar, who clinched India’s first medal at the CWG 2022. Though, netizens in the comment section trolled the veteran cricketer and advised him to stay informed better.

“Well done #SanketSargar for winning India it’s first medal at the Commonwealth Games, brilliant effort. Proud of your Silver #CWG,” tweeted Sehwag.
