Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct, an official IPL media release stated on Friday.

The wicketkeeper-batter had breached the code during RCB’s Eliminator clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday.

“Dinesh Karthik from Royal Challengers Bangalore has been reprimanded for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s Eliminator match against Lucknow Super Giants on May 25th at Eden Gardens, Kolkata,” read the IPL MEDIA ADVISORY release.

Karthik admitted to the level 1 offence under Article 2.3, which suggests using an audible obscenity during a match. Notably, this also includes the usage of offensive words by the player in any language, which is audible to the spectators, and the audience, either through the stump mics or otherwise.

During the RCB’s innings, Karthik was caught by stump mic using some offensive words out of frustration. In the death overs, the Tamil Nadu cricketer had tried to hit a wide ball to get some runs, but upon failing to execute his shot, Karthik ended up yelling some derogatory words.

“Mr. Karthik admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the release added.

Notably, the Challengers had won the Eliminator against the Super Giants by 14 runs, and now the Faf du Plessis-led side will square off against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2, scheduled to take place at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.
