Paul Collingwood has been appointed as interim head coach of England’s men’s team for the upcoming three-match Test series against West Indies, starting March 8.
Previous head coach Chris Silverwood stepped down from his job last week after England’s 4-0 Ashes defeat against Australia.
Collingwood took charge of England during their T20I series defeat (3-2) in the Caribbean last month.
“I am genuinely excited to be leading the Test team for the tour of the Caribbean,” the former all-rounder said in an official statement.
“I can’t wait to get started.”
England Test squad, which is all set to be lead by Joe Root, will be announced on Tuesday.
Root and Co. will land in Antigua on February 25 and will play a four-day warm-up match ahead of the three-match Test series.
Collingwood was earlier a part of England’s coaching staff during the T20 World Cup in UAE and the Ashes in Australia.
“Having a challenging Test series against the West Indies straight off the back of the Ashes disappointment gives us a chance from now to reset and rebuild,” added Collingwood.
“My objective is to give players clarity, direction and encouragement for them to start building something special.
“I have spoken to Joe Root and Ben Stokes, and both are excited and passionate to take the team forward in this new cycle.
“Although they know it won’t be easy, they have the desire and bravery to do things differently to ensure the team can prosper.
“We have an opportunity to get back on track,” concluded the 45-year-old.
