On Thursday, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) announced their new coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. As many as four fresh faces have joined the Sunrisers unit for the upcoming season.

Former West Indies skipper Brian Lara has been appointed as the batting coach of the team, and he will also work as a strategic advisor for the 2016 winners. Similarly, former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn will also join the Hyderabad franchise as their fast bowling coach for IPL 2022.

SRH have picked former India batsman Hemang Badani as the fielding coach and scout, while Muttiah Muralitharan will continue to serve as the strategy and spin bowling coach. The support staff will be working under head coach Tom Moody, while ex-Australian opener Simon Katich has been named as Sunrisers’ assistant coach.

“Introducing the new management/support staff of SRH for #IPL2022! Orange Army, we are #ReadyToRise! @BrianLara #MuttiahMuralitharan @TomMoodyCricket @DaleSteyn62 #SimonKatich @hemangkbadani,” tweeted SRH.

The Sunrisers had a disappointing season in the IPL 2021 after failing to qualify for the playoffs, finishing at last position in the league stage under captain Kane Williamson.

Meanwhile, the IPL 2022 mega auction is set to take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.

“It has been clarified to us that the match and auction are two different things and both will go ahead,” a franchise official was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.

Last month, all the existing eight IPL franchises revealed the list of their retained players ahead of the mega auction for the upcoming season. When it comes to SRH, they retained Williamson, along with Abdul Samad and Umran Malik.
