Suryakumar Yadav, India’s newly appointed vice-captain for the ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka, continued to hold the no. 1 batter spot in the latest ICC rankings for batters.

Yadav did not have a great outing in the series opener against the Islanders. However, in the updated rankings released on Thursday, he still managed to be 47 points ahead of Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan. The Pakistan opener is at the second position.

Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, progressed and moved up ten places to acquire the 23rd spot. In the first T20I against Sri Lanka, Kishan played a decent knock of 37 runs. Deepak Hooda, the Player of the Match in that game, also acquired the 97th spot and made it into the top 100.

No Indian batter apart from Suryakumar is in the top 10 list. Virat Kohli, who’s not part of the ongoing series, is at the 13th position, while Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are placed in the 20th and 21st positions, respectively.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Hardik Pandya has moved up nine places among the bowlers following his economical spell against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede on Tuesday.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who took one wicket and scored quick-fire 21 runs in the opening game against India went on to maintain his numero uno spot amongst the bowlers. The 25-year-old has also moved up to the fifth position in the all-rounders’ category owned by Bangladesh veteran Shakib Al Hasan.

“There was little change on the latest T20I rankings following the first match of the three-game series between India and Sri Lanka, with dynamic No.4 Suryakumar Yadav maintaining his place as the top ranked batter despite a rare failure in Mumbai. Kishan was rewarded with a 10-spot jump to 23rd overall on the latest list for T20I batters, while Hooda re-enters the top 100 at 97th following his valuable late hitting,” said ICC in a statement, released on Thursday.
