Indian Women’s ODI captain Mithali Raj has maintained her second spot among the batters in the latest ODI rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday.
Mithali’s teammate and star opening batter Smriti Mandhana has advanced one place to fifth in the rankings headed by Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy. The major gainer, however, is Australian batting sensation, Beth Mooney. The Victorian has climbed five slots to occupy the third position after a match-winning 73 in the first ODI of the recently concluded three-match series against England.
The ODI leg between South Africa and West Indies also impacted the batters’ rankings, with Proteas opener Laura Wolvaardt breaking into the top 10. Wolvaardt’s century in the third ODI has moved her four places to the ninth spot.
Amongst the bowlers, the South African duo of Shabnim Ismail and Ayabonga Khaka have risen one slot each to fifth and seventh position, respectively. Although the huge gains have gone into the favour of Aussie star Ellyse Perry, rising seven places to break into the top 10 and acquiring the No.9 position.
Further, Perry’s domination with the bat has also helped her regain the top spot in the all-rounders’ rankings. She was the Player of the Match in the second ODI against England. England’s Katherine Brunt has also gained three places to occupy the fifth position.
Australia’s Jess Jonassen and India’s Jhulan Goswami, two veterans in Women cricket, have maintained their first and second positions among the bowlers, respectively. Goswami has also broken into the top 10 in the all-rounders’ category to occupy the 10th spot. She is accompanied by teammate Deepti Sharma, who has maintained her fourth spot.
