The inaugural edition of the International League T20 (ILT20) is currently underway in the UAE. The organisers of the tournament have come up with a unique idea of rewarding belts to players who perform well on the field.

The league offers five sets of belts: the Green Belt, White Belt, Black Belt, Red Belt and Blue Belt. The player with the most runs at the end of the tournament will get ‘Green Belt’, while the player with the most wickets will receive ‘White Belt’. Similarly, ‘Black Belt’ will be presented to the winning team’s owner at the end of the season and the ‘Red Belt’ to the league’s most valuable player.

On Monday, Dubai Capitals and Gulf Giants faced each other in match no. 5 of the ongoing ILT20 at Dubai International cricket stadium.

Asked to bat first, Dubai Capitals posted a competitive total of 182-8 on the board with the help of Robin Uthappa‘s 79 from just 46 deliveries. Meanwhile, Rovman Powell and Sikandar Raza contributed to the team with 38 and 30 runs, respectively.

In reply, Gulf Giants chased down the set target with six balls to spare. Giants’ skipper James Vince scored an unbeaten 83. Vince built a 107-run partnership with Gerhard Erasmus, who scored a quick fire 52 off 28 balls.

Uthappa, who smashed ten fours and two sixes during his scintillating knock, was rewarded with the ‘Green Belt’ following his fantastic innings. The wicket-keeper-batter is currently the leading run-scorer of ILT20 2023, with 122 runs under his belt.

Fans on social were amused to see Uthappa’s picture with the ‘Green Belt’ and reacted hilariously; some even compared it to WWE.
