The much-anticipated white-ball series between India and West Indies is beginning from Sunday, February 06. The battle between the two sides will start with the three-match ODI series, which will be entirely played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The ODI leg is quite essential for India, especially after their previous experience in the rainbow nation where they suffered a 0-3 whitewash by South Africa. As the hosts prepare to lock horns with Caribbeans, former India opener Wasim Jaffer has picked his playing XI for the series opener.

Starting with the openers, Jaffer went with captain Rohit Sharma, and Mayank Agarwal, who was recently added to the squad after Shikhar Dhawan, Navdeep Saini, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer all returned positive results in the COVID-19 testing.

Jaffer then named format captain Virat Kohli at number three, followed by wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant at four and Suryakumar Yadav at number five. After five specialised batters, the Mumbaikar picked three bowlers, who have proved their all-rounder credentials in the recent past.

Jaffer went with Washington Sundar at number six, followed by Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur. All three players have shown at times that they can contribute with the bat equally, irrespective of the formats.

Jaffer then picked one specialist pace bowler in the form of Mohammad Siraj and two spinners – Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi – to complete his playing XI.

Here’s Wasim Jaffer’s India XI for the first ODI:

Rohit Sharma (c), Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal.
