The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 auction took place in Chennai on Thursday, February 18. Associates of all eight IPL franchises came together to bid for the players to fill up the vacant slots in their team rosters.

As many as 57 players were bought in the mini-event, and a total of INR 145.3 crore was spent.

Twenty-two foreign players were sold, and it was South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris who became the most expensive buy in the IPL history as Rajashthan Royals roped him after a stiff battle with Punjab Kings.

Australia’s young pacer Riley Meredith also set the new record for the most expensive uncapped foreign player when he was bought by Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta for INR 8 crore.

On the other hand, uncapped India all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham was picked up at INR 9.2 crore by Chennai Super Kings.

Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar was the last player to be picked at the auction as Mumbai Indians bought him at his base price of INR 20 lakh.
