Ahead of the start of IPL 2022, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management is concerned over the continued delay in the arrival of England international Moeen Ali, who still hasn’t joined the reigning champions, for the upcoming season.
Moeen, 34, who was retained by the Super Kings for INR 8 crore, is waiting for the clearance of his travel documents by the Indian High Commission in the UK.
“He had applied for his visa on February 28. It has been more than 20 days since the application was submitted. He has been a frequent traveller to India and yet he has not got the travel papers. We are hoping he will join the team soon. He has told us that he will take the very next flight after getting the papers,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“Even the BCCI has got itself involved to help us. We are hoping that he will get the papers by Monday,” he added.
Ali will have to undergo a mandatory three-day quarantine upon his arrival in India. He is not a part of the England Test team that is currently competing against West Indies after having retired from the longest format of the game.
Meanwhile, CSK will begin their IPL 2022 campaign when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, May 26. CSK players are currently practicing in Surat in the lead up to the new season. While the likes of MS Dhoni, Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu began training earlier this month, the other domestic players and foreign stars have started arriving.
CSK squad for IPL 2022:
MS Dhoni (captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Dwayne Bravo, Adam Milne, Robin Uthappa, KM Asif, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana, Simarjeet Singh, Dwaine Pretorius, Mitchell Santner, Subranshu Senapati, Mukesh Chowdhary, Prashant Solanki, C Hari Nishaanth, Narayan Jagadeeshan, Chris Jordan, Bhagat Varma.
