Delhi Capitals (DC) faced a close defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a high-scoring thriller at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday.

Chasing 223 for victory, DC were restricted to 207/8 in the stipulated 20 overs. They lost the match by 15 runs and also failed to grab the crucial two points.

During the match, DC captain Rishabh Pant even lost his cool as he was seen signalling his teammates Rovman Powell
and Kuldeep Yadav to return back to the dugout after being robbed off a no-ball.

It all happened in the final over when DC needed 36 runs for a win. Powell slammed the first three balls for sixes, keeping his side in the game, but the third of those was hit off a waist-high full-toss.

The on-field umpires didn’t find it necessary to consult with the third umpire and deemed the delivery legitimate, leading the Delhi camp to be infuriated and assistant coach Praveen Amre entered the field to have a chat with umpire Nitin Menon. The drama brought an abrupt halt to the contest, breaking the flow of play and Powell could only score two runs in the next three balls.

However, after the game, Pant defended his actions.

“In the end, Powell gave us a chance,” he told Pommie Mbangwa in the post-match briefing with the official broadcaster.

“I thought that no-ball could have been precious for us. I thought we could have checked that no-ball, but [that is] not in my control. Yes, disappointed, but can’t do much about it.”
