Delhi Capitals (DC) have traded India all-rounder Shardul Thakur to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). DC acquired the services of Thakur in the 2022 IPL Auction for a whopping amount of INR 10.75 crore.

Thakur, who is currently in New Zealand as part of India’s ODI squad, was on the radars of his previous IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK), current champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) as well.

Thakur took 15 wickets in 14 matches for DC in IPL 2022 – his worst performance in the IPL since 2017. While with the bat, he scored 120 runs at a strike rate of 138. Overall, the fast-bowling all-rounder has played 75 IPL matches and taken 82 wickets at an economy of 9.06.

Knight Riders have been the most active franchise before the trading window closes on November 13, which also happens to be the cut-off date to finalise the list of players each team want to retain or release. The retention and trading window is scheduled to close on Tuesday at 5 pm IST.

Thakur is the third player whom KKR have acquired since the trading window opened. The duo of Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz was earlier roped in by the Kolkata-based franchise following an all-cash deal with GT.

Current KKR squad:

  • Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Pat Cummins, Shreyas Iyer (captain), Nitish Rana, Shivam Mavi, Sheldon Jackson, Ajinkya Rahane, Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy, Rasikh Dar, Baba Indrajith, Chamika Karunaratne, Abhijeet Tomar, Pratham Singh, Ashok Sharma, Alex Hales, Tim Southee, Ramesh Kumar, Mohammad Nabi, Umesh Yadav, Aman Khan
