Former BCCI President and soon-to-be Delhi Capitals (DC) Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly, has given a big update regarding the availability of Rishabh Pant for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL).

Notably, Pant suffered a fiery road accident last month after his car crashed on a highway. The wicketkeeper-batter sustained severe injuries and was admitted to Max Hospital in Dehradun before being airlifted to Mumbai for further treatment.

As Pant continues to undergo treatment, Ganguly, who is expected to join the Capitals as their director of cricket soon, has confirmed that the Indian cricketer will miss this year’s edition of the cash-rich league.

“Rishabh Pant will not be available for the IPL. It will be a great IPL (for the team), we will do well, but Rishabh Pant’s injury will affect the Delhi Capitals,” said Ganguly, as quoted by Sports Today.

Pant, who led the Capitals in the previous edition of the lucrative league, had two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee along with other injuries. The Roorkee-born recently underwent successful knee surgery at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute in Mumbai.

“Rishabh Pant has successfully undergone knee ligament surgery on Friday. He will be under observation. Further course of action and rehabilitation will be advised by Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala and followed by the BCCI sports science and medicine team,” a BCCI source told PTI.

Pant has so far played 98 matches in IPL, in which he has amassed 2838 runs at a strike rate of 147.97 with the help of one hundred and 15 half-centuries.
