The 55th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 saw Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lock horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday (May 11). Although CSK emerged victorious in the game by 27 runs, it was DC’s Lalit Yadav’s catch that stole the show.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, CSK put up a competitive total of 167/8 in their allotted 20 overs. While Shivam Dube was the top-scorer for his team with 25 runs off 12 deliveries, Ruturaj Gaikwad contributed valuable 24 runs to the Chennai-based team’s total. On the other hand, Mitchell March picked up three wickets for DC in the contest. Apart from Marsh, Lalit also bagged one scalp for his side. Notably, the wicket for Lalit came in the form of dangerous Ajinkya Rahane, whom he dismissed off a stunning caught and bowled.

On the first ball of the 12th over, Lalit produced a tossed-up delivery to Rahane and invited him for a drive. The CSK batter couldn’t resist and fell into the trap of the off-spinner as he went to hit the ball straight. Despite the obstruction of the non-striker, Lalit dived towards his right and plucked a blinder to send Rahane back to the pavilion. Following the sensational low catch of Lalit, even the on-field umpire Chris Gaffaney was left in awe. The video of the same has gone viral on the internet.

Here’s the video:

Coming back to the match, DC started terribly in the run chase and lost their skipper David Warner for a duck. However, Rilee Rossouw’s resilient 35 runs off 37 balls kept the hopes alive for the Delhi-based side in the contest. But due to poor batting from other batters, DC failed to chase the set target and eventually fell 27 runs short, finishing their innings on a score of 140/8 in their 20 overs. For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana bagged three scalps.
