Aaaah! What an epic end to this Test. Ashwin and Vihari put up a monumental effort to bat close to 44 overs and keep Australia at bay. Both teams had their chances through the day to push through for wins, but in the end, it came down to the grit, determination and character shown by Ashwin and Vihari. It was the longest that India has batted in the fourth innings of a Test in 41 years.

Vihari was harbouring a hamstring injury while keeping Australia at bay. The pair barely ran for any singles and didn’t even bother after a stage, knowing a draw was their best bet. Australia will feel robbed of the win, but they only have themselves to blame with catches going down aplenty on the final day. Tim Paine dropped as many as three catches, at crucial times, two of which were of Pant, who went on to score a brilliant 97. Had Paine caught him on 3, the game could’ve been different. Yet, the maybes, could-bes and would-bes could always be aplenty.

There was quite a bit of drama through the Test with India’s mounting injuries, Siraj facing racial abuse during the third and fourth day, Paine being fined for dissent against the umpire’s decision and the chatter behind the stumps between Paine and Ashwin towards the end. However, hopefully, the Test will be remembered for all the right reasons and the brilliant fight from the Indian pair on the final day.

The series stands at 1-1 with the final one in Brisbane. No team has beaten Australia at the Gabba. However, all India need is a draw to retain the trophy. Thank you for your company today. Do join us for the final Test of this brilliant series. Guudbye!

300 up for India

DROPPED!Further luck for Ashwin as the substitute fielder Abbott couldn’t hold on at square leg. He throws in the dive and gets his hands to it, but can’t hold on.

REVIEW! Ashwin is given out off a lob immediately after Tea but Ashwin reviews straightaway. It’s come off the arm guard.NOT OUT!

That’s TEA! Australia have fought their way back into the contest with those two wickets of Pant and Pujara. The stand was menacing for the hosts that fetched India 148 runs before Pant fell for 97. Pujara then switched gears after Pant’s dismissal and got some boundaries in while Vihari took his time to settle in. His hamstring injury didn’t help as India went to the break on 280/5. India need 127 runs to win, Australia 5 wickets. Looks like Jadeja will bat even with a dislocated thumb.

BOWLED HIM!Pujara plays down the wrong line as the ball that was angled in straightens off the deck and strikes timber. Two set batsmen, both are back to the pavilion. Hazlewood knows how important that is! Gone for 77.

Australia take the new ball. Important session for Australia, this. India need only 157 runs to win.

Oh, dear!! What has he done!! Couldn’t help himself… just a bit of too much turn and he goes after it. A mishit to Cummins at backward point, who takes a good catch. Lyon redeems himself after having Pant dropped twice off his bowling, only for Pant to go after him there on. Pant departs for 97 – he deserved a century, but oh well… Very disappointed is he, but he should be proud. Lyon lets out a roar.

250 up for India

UNCANNY!!

50 for Pujara as India continue to dominate – his second in the Test

@Kritzika @cricbuzz #AUSvIND Dodging the second new ball is gonna be utmost important from India’s point of view. If Pujara and Pant fail to play till 100 overs, then India can capitulate quickly.

Pant is on 80 now

6000 Test runs for Pujara

We’re back after Lunch. Big session, this

That’s Lunch. India are slowly taking control of this Test, going into the break just 201 runs behind.Having started the day on 98/2, India are 206/3 at Lunch, and although they have much to do, they will fancy their chances of making a game out of this Test, thanks to one man Rishabh Pant, whose dynamic 73 has kept them in the game. Pant dominated Lyon, using his feet and attacked Australia’s best bowler for a fifth-day wicket. Yes, he was handed two chances by Paine off Lyon, but made Australia pay for them. India will be the happier side at Lunch and now Australia will suddenly start feeling the pressure. They need a couple of quick wickets to turn the game in their favour and early in the middle session. Else, India could even chase the remainder runs down with ample time left.

200 up for India and that’s the century stand for the pair!

DROPPED AGAIN! Off Lyon by Paine against Pant.Almost a similar chance that was put down earlier. A thinner edge than before but a chance gone down nevetheless. Paine won’t be happy, nor will be Lyon, who will feel hard done by, especially given how Pant’s been going after him. Dropped on 56.

50 for Pant! What an innings it’s been. Not even sure he would bat, he’s come out attacking Lyon, taking him for sixes while going after the others for boundaries in quite a dynamic knock! He’s keeping India in the game with this stand with Pujara that has now stretched to 66. Can India actually chase this down? Pant has clearly switched gears. He was dropped early in the innings, ICYMI.

150 up for India

50-run stand up between Pujara and Pant

The stand is building between Pujara and Pant.Pant in particular is going after Lyon, using his feet well against him, taking him for runs. Has not let him settle into a length here.

DROPPED!Pant is handed a life after getting an outside edge to a spinning delivery outside off. He pokes away from his body and Paine gets his gloves to it, but the ball doesn’t stick.

We have Pant in, who’s batting despite that hit to his elbow and he’s up against Cummins

OUT!! It’s just the second over of the day and Rahane is gone.Lyon opens the bowling on the final day and it pays off. What a champion bowler Lyon is. Not much of turn, it turned quickly and as he tries to defend, it goes straight to Wade at short leg. Sharp catch from Wade as the Indian skipper departs.

The openers are making their way to the middle along with the Australians.

Good news for India.

The equation for the final day of the Sydney Test is quite simple. Australia need eight, potentially seven wickets to win. India need 309 runs. Or, need to bat out three whole sessions with no expectancy of rain. Which way are you going?

Hello, and welcome to the final day of the third Test of this fascinating series. There were some unsavory events that transpired yesterday when some spectators were evicted from the ground for having allegedly racially abused Mohammed Siraj. The bowler didn’t take it quietly and complained to the match officials, who then took action. It shifted the spotlight from what was otherwise a good day for the hosts who first declared after Tea leaving India 407 to get. They sent back Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill after that before stumps to tighten their grip on the game.

Australia have the important Pujara-Rahane stand to overcome first things first, while the Indian pair will like to bat as long as they can and keep Australia at bay. One way or another, we should have an interesting day of cricket. Join us in a bit for live action.
