The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022.

While Virat Kohli and KL Rahul made their comebacks in the T20I outfit, frontline pacer Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury.

However, the announcement of the squad met controversy as several fans on social media slammed BCCI for not picking wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.

Notably, Samson, who has been in and out of the Indian white-ball teams throughout his career, recently played three matches on the trot – against West Indies – only once in his career so far, since his international debut.

But Samson was ignored for the role as the apex board selected Rishabh Pant along with Dinesh Karthik and Rahul as backup options. No wonder Samson’s omission did not go down well with his fans on social media.

Further, the fans were also annoyed with the fact that Samson was not even considered a standby for which three players – Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar were named.
