Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting fired some shots at ex-England international Kevin Pietersen for latter’s remarks on Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon.

During the Day 3 of the ongoing Pink-Ball Test between England and Australia, Pieterson took to Twitter and called Lyon a bowler with ‘zero variations’. He further urged the English batters to take the off-spinner to the cleaners as the match was happening at Adelaide Oval, where the track is considered batting friendly.

“Can SOMEONE please smack Lyon?!?!! FFS! Off spinner with zero variations and bowling on world crickets flattest road!!!! #Ashes” tweeted Pietersen.

However, Pietersen’s comments didn’t go down well with Ponting as he took a jibe at the Englishman after Lyon got some wickets.

“I wonder if Kev is still watching? The Goat’s got another one. This is off-spin of the highest class,” said Ponting on Channel7.

The Tasmanian further mentioned that Lyon had dismissed Pietersen four times in international cricket, including at the Adelaide Oval, which the former England batter termed as ‘flattest’.

“400 Test wickets, Kev. Lyon to Pietersen. Lyon got him four times for 163 runs, and at the Adelaide Oval, the world’s flattest cricket wicket, Kevin Pietersen, none for 14 off 23 balls with 15 dots and only one boundary. Come on, Kev,” added Ponting.

Pietersen then also responded to Ponting’s comments, saying it was strange to see Aussies reacting as if he was not allowed to attack Lyon simply because the offie has taken 400 wickets in the longest format.

“It’s quite bizarre how many Australians responded so negatively to my tweet about Lyon. The Aussie way would be to attack and NOT play him like these English batters. Because he’s got 400 wickets, you’re not allowed to attack him?! Strange!,” Pietersen wrote on Twitter.
