On Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the seven venues for next year’s edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia.

The tournament, which was supposed to be held in 2020 but got postponed for two years due to COVID-19, will now take place from October 16 to November 13 in 2022.

The marquee event will see 45 matches at seven different venues across Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Hobart and Sydney, with the final scheduled to be played under lights at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

With 12 teams already confirmed in the line-up, we eagerly await the culmination of the qualification process to see which other teams will join them,” the ICC head of events, Chris Tetley, said in an official statement.

We are looking forward to seeing the return of ICC events to Australia and are delighted to announce the seven host cities for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Following the success of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020 and a two-year postponement, our sights are now firmly set on planning for the 2022 event in collaboration with the Local Organising Committee (LOC),” Tetley added.

The 2021 T20 World Cup champions Australia and runner-ups New Zealand, besides India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, England, South Africa and Bangladesh, as the next highest-ranked teams, will get direct entry into the Super 12 stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup.

West Indies, Sri Lanka, Namibia and Scotland will play the preliminary round along with four other countries in the two qualifying tournaments – one shall take place in Oman in February while the other in Zimbabwe in June-July, 2022.
