Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced their squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the hosts India, with young wicketkeeper-batsman Tristan Stubbs receiving his maiden call-up.
The 21-year-old, who impressed one and all with his power-hitting skills during the Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 Challenge, was also part of the South Africa A team tour of Zimbabwe before being added by the Mumbai Indians (MI) outfit for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Other notable selections include the return of fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who is representing Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing IPL, and opening batter Reeza Hendricks.
In his official statement, Victor Mpitsang – CSA Convenor of Selectors, said that the Proteas squad they have assembled is one of the strongest line-ups they have had in recent times.
“This is the Proteas like we have not seen them in a long time. The injection of the IPL players means that we will have a team that’s ready to fire on all cylinders immediately and has vast experience of the conditions that we will be playing in,” said Mpitsang.
The T20I series between India and South Africa will kick-off in Delhi on June 9 and the remaining matches are scheduled to place in Cuttack (June 12), Visakhapatnam (June 14), Rajkot (June 17) and Bengaluru (June 19) respectively.
