South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Ireland due to an injury in his left medial ankle.

Notably, the Proteas rested Rabada for the ODI series in England in July to manage his workload better for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Australia later this year. The pace spearhead did return for the T20I series but played the first two games of the three-match series.

“He [Kagiso Rabada] will continue medical management and rehabilitation, and his progress will be closely monitored in preparation for the upcoming three-match Test series against England later this month,” read Cricket South Africa (CSA) media statement.

South Africa drew the ODI series 1-1, as the last fixture washed out, before clinching the T20I series 2-1. They will now face Ireland in the two-match leg that starts from August 03 in Bristol.

After the T20I fixtures against the Irish side, South Africa will resume their battle against England with a three-match Test series, starting on August 17. The red-ball matches are part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). When it comes to team standings, South Africa are currently leading the championship table, whereas England are placed seventh.
