England defeated South Africa in the third and final Test by nine wickets to clinch the three-match series 2-1 at Kennington Oval in London on Monday.

After bundling out the tourists for 169 in their second innings, the hosts completed the chase of 130 in 22.3 overs, with Zak Crawley scoring an unbeaten 69 from 57 deliveries, including 12 boundaries. Overall, the English bowlers dominated the proceedings throughout the two and a bit of the third day of play after no play happened in the first two days (Day 1 was washed out due to rain, while Day 2 was suspended following the death of Queen Elizabeth II).

Ollie Robinson, who picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings followed by a couple of scalps in the second essay, was named the Player of the Match. Veteran pacer Stuart Broad also shined with the ball, bagging seven wickets (4/41 in the first innings and 3/45 in the second) in the match.

“It’s been a great series for us as a team. We’ve had no real individual standout performance. Different people have put their hands up. Toss is something you love to win, you still have to execute. When it comes to Test cricket, it’s who execute their plans better. When you’ve got bowlers like Jimmy, Broady and Robinson, you try to manage them. It’s about understanding when I have to bring the best out of them. They have been outstanding. For me, it’s about clarity. There’s a reason why we’ve been able to go out there and perform. With this game being shortened, our main aim was to get a result. We’ll always play the way that’s going to entertain the people. It’s very important to give guys time to perform,” said England captain Ben Stokes after the match.
