In Match 50 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Delhi Capitals (DC) thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Thursday.
Chasing the enormous target of 208, Sunrisers never looked settled as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Nicholas Pooran, however, stood tall against DC bowlers and kept the hopes alive for SRH fans.
The left-handed batter smashed another vital half-century of the season, but the excessive asking rate pressure had him in the 18th over when he lost his wicket while trying to go for a biggie against Shardul Thakur in the 18th over. Pooran scored 62 off 34 balls, including 2 fours and 6 humungous sixes. Eventually SRH only managed to reach 186/8 in 20 overs, losing the contest by 21 runs.
Earlier, DC opener David Warner smashed a remarkable half-century to create a massive T20 batting record. Warner, who was tied at 88 fifties in T20 cricket with Chris Gayle before the match, hit his 89th half-ton against a top-quality SRH bowling line-up.
Warner remained unbeaten on 92 off 58 balls with the help of 15 boundaries, including three sixes, as DC posted a huge 207/3 in 20 overs. Power-hitter Rovman Powell provided decent support with an undefeated half-century. Powell scored 67 from 35 deliveries, including three fours and six maximums.
