South Africa defeated India by seven wickets in the second Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg to level the three-match series 1-1.

Proteas captain Dean Elgar led his side from the front, smashing an unbeaten half-century to help hosts upstage the visitors in the rain-marred encounter to register their first-ever triumph at the Bullring.

Elgar remained unbeaten for 96 to take his side over the finish line. Apart from Elgar, batter Rassie van der Dussen (40 off 92) and Temba Bavuma (23 no) made valuable contributions as the home team won the contest.

For India, Mohammed Shami (1/55), Shardul Thakur (1/47), and Ravichandran Ashwin (1/26) picked one wicket each.
