England are in complete control of their chase against India in the ongoing rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Chasing a massive target of 378, the hosts started brilliantly with both openers adding 107 to indicate their intention clearly.

The tourists, however, came back with three wickets in quick succession in the form of Zak Crawley (46), Ollie Pope (0) and Alex Lees (56). But the happiness in the Indian camp didn’t last long as former skipper Joe Root and centurion from the first innings Jonny Bairstow came up with a spectacular response and completely took the game away from the tourists.

The experienced pair added 150 runs for the fourth wicket, with both Root (76) and Bairstow (72) finishing unbeaten in the 70s as England managed to score 259 at stumps, only 119 runs behind with an entire day left to be played.

Earlier, India resumed the day at 125/3, but overnight batters Cheteshwar Pujara (66) and Rishabh Pant (57) could only add just 28 more runs before the former was removed by Stuart Broad. The touring party continued to lose wickets, with skipper Ben Stokes (4/33) emerging as the most successful bowler as England restricted India at 245.
