In the Eliminator of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 14 runs. RCB will now meet Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2.

Chasing a massive target of 208, Lucknow lost two wickets at 41 in 4.3 overs before captain KL Rahul and batter Deepak Hooda partnered to steady the ship. The duo went on to add a crucial stand of 96 runs for the third wicket.

As Lucknow looked set to cruise through, the Challengers came back in the game with two quick wickets in the form of Hooda (45) and Marcus Stoinis (9).

Captain Rahul tried his best to take the game deep, but in order to speed up the run rate, the right-handed batter lost his prized scalp in the penultimate over, bowled by Josh Hazlewood. Eventually, the Super Giants could only manage to reach 193/6, losing the contest by 14 runs.

Earlier, Rajat Patidar lit up the Eden Gardens with a sensational batting display. The right-handed batter took LSG bowlers to the cleaners and smashed his maiden century in the cash-rich league.

Patidar, who came to bat when RCB’s score read 4/1 in 0.5 overs, stayed in the middle till the very end, playing an unbeaten knock of 112 runs from just 54 deliveries.

The Indore-born batter smacked 12 fours and seven humungous sixes during his super entertaining inning. Riding on Patidar’s fireworks, the Challengers posted 207/4 on the board in their allotted 20 overs.
