Leg-spinner Adam Zampa wreaked havoc to dismantle the New Zealand batting order bagging a brilliant five-wicket haul as Australia registered a thumping 113-run win in Cairns to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match Chappell-Hadlee ODI series.

Chasing 196, the tourists were bundled out for a mere 82 in 33 overs. Kane Williamson (17), Mitchell Santner (16 no), Michael Bracewell (12) and Daryl Mitchell (10) were the only batters who scored in double figures.

Zampa picked up five wickets while conceding only 35 runs in nine overs. Similarly, Mitchell Starc (2/12) and Sean Abott (2/1) bagged a couple of scalps each, while Marcus Stoinis (1/14) took one wicket in the match.

Earlier, after being put to bat first, the hosts lost five wickets for just 54 in 18.3 overs before Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell joined hands to calm things down. The duo added a vital 49-run stand for the sixth wicket before the Black Caps came back yet again, picking up three wickets in quick succession to reduce the Australians to 117/8 in 36.3 overs.

Smith, who was dismissed in the 37th over, played a wonderful knock of 61 runs from 94 deliveries with the help of five fours and a six. After Smith’s dismissal, it didn’t seem as if Australia would cross the 150-run mark, but the tailenders did the unthinkable and took the team’s total to 195/9 in 50 overs.
