After losing Shreyas Iyer early on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, Team India recovered well as all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin and tailender Kuldeep Yadav formed a scintillating partnership for the eighth wicket.

Both Ashwin and Kuldeep added more than 90 runs to keep Bangladesh bowlers at bay. While the pair attracted everyone’s attention with their partnership, there was another incident that caught maximum eyeballs when the on-field umpire awarded India five runs in a penalty after a throw from a Bangladesh fielder hit the hit the helmet, which was lying on the ground.

It all happened on the second ball of the 112th over bowled by Taijul Islam. The spinner went for a full delivery and Ashwin drew forward to push it through the covers. But it got an outside edge that escaped the first slip before dribbling away towards the third man.

The fielder threw the ball towards the keepers’ end, but it ended up hitting the helmet placed behind the stumps. The on-field umpire Michael Gough noticed it and immediately awarded five penalty runs to the tourists.

Speaking about the India innings, after 131 overs, the visitors have managed to score 384/7 with Kuldeep and Ashwin on the crease. The duo has added 91 runs for the eighth wicket, with Ashwin batting on 58 and Kuldeep unbeaten at 39.
