Bangladesh have so far performed outstandingly well in the ongoing first Test against New Zealand at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The visitors have dominated the proceedings with both bat and ball to keep the home team on the back foot in their own backyard.

On Day 4, the Bangla Tigers finished their first innings on 458 before reducing New Zealand for 147/5 to end the day on a high note. While almost everything went in favour of the tourists, some of their DRS calls scripted a complete different story.

During the 37th over of New Zealand’s second innings, Taskin Ahmed and other Bangladesh players appealed for an LBW against Ross Taylor. The on-field umpire gave the batter not out, and with just a few seconds left in the timer, Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque decided to go upstairs.

However, replays showed that the ball, in fact, hit the middle of the bat. The bizarre DRS call left everyone in splits, even the on-air commentators were heard laughing.

The day, however, belonged to Bangladesh, who are inching towards a memorable win in New Zealand. After earning a first-innings lead of 130, medium-pacer Ebadot Hossain wreaked havoc with his brilliant four-wicket hail to destroy the Black Caps’ top order. Ebadot picked up 4 scalps for 39 in 17 overs.

Apart from Ebadot, Taskin, who pushed his skipper to go for that bizarre DRS call, also bagged a wicket. New Zealand ended Day 4 at 147/5, leading Bangladesh by 17 runs, with Taylor (37 no) and Rachin Ravindra (6 no) at the crease.
