Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan, playing for Sussex in the ongoing County Championship Division 2, took a stunning catch against Durham on Monday.

It all happened in the 103rd over of Durham’s second innings. On the bowling of Sussex’s left-arm spinner Delray Rawlins, Durham batter David Bedingham opted for a defensive shot, but the ball took an outside edge of his bat and hit the wicketkeeper’s pads before flying towards the first slip. Rizwan, fielding at that position, quickly dived towards his right and plucked the ball out of thin air.

As far as the match is concerned, Durham got all out for 223 in their first innings, thanks to an excellent bowling display by Sussex bowlers.

In reply, Sussex batters posted a mammoth total of 538 runs in their first innings. India veteran Cheteshwar Pujara led the way for his side by smashing 203 runs off 334 balls. Four other players scored half-centuries, with Rizwan smoking 79 runs off 145 deliveries.

Though Sussex got a huge lead of 315 runs in the first innings, Durham put on a brave fight in their second essay. The Scott Borthwick-led side batted for more than 100 overs and scored 364/3 before the match ended in a draw.
