Star India opener Shubman Gill began his County stint in grand style on Wednesday. The right-handed batter caught everyone’s attention with a half-century in his County Championship debut match for Glamorgan against Worcestershire in Sophia Gardens.

Gill brought up his fifty in 87 balls and gave his side a flying start. However, unfortunately, the batter couldn’t convert his fifty to a triple-figure score as he was dismissed just 8 runs short of what could be a faboulous century. It all happened in the 67th over bowled by Ed Barnard when Gill was trapped in front.

Speaking about the match, Worcestershire managed to post a massive 454/9 in their first innings after opting to bat first, with Gareth Roderick smashing 172 runs. Apart from Roderick, Joe Leach, with 87 runs and Barnard, with 75, made valuable contributions. Timm van der Gugten was the pick of the bowlers for Glamorgan as he bagged four wickets, followed by James Harris with three scalps.

In response, Gill and Edward Byrom shined for Glamorgan with their respective knocks of 92 and 67. Chris Cooke also scored his half-century (51 no), but Glamorgan could only manage to post 295 on the board. For Worcestershire, Ben Gibbon and Dillon Pennington both bagged four-wicket hauls.

After getting a follow-on, Glamorgan’s score read at 5/0 in 1.3 overs, trailing by 154 runs, before the play was interrupted by rain.
