India skipper Rohit Sharma, on Tuesday, had a major injury scare when he walked off the field retired hurt during his side’s chase in the third T20I at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts.

Rohit was batting on 11 off five balls before pulling a muscle. Soon, Indian physio Kamlesh Jain came running on to the ground, and after a discussion, Rohit decided to walk off while holding his back.

The BCCI also dropped an update on Rohit’s injury, mentioning that it was a back spasm. BCCI took to Twitter and wrote: “Team India captain Rohit Sharma has a back spasm. The BCCI medical team is monitoring his progress.”

Despite Rohit’s absence, India batters successfully chased down 165, winning the match by seven wickets. Though, all eyes were set on Rohit as many expected the Nagpur-born to give an update on his injury.

Rohit didn’t disappoint as he gave an update on his injury, saying that his body is ok at the moment and, hopefully, he will be fit for the next match.

“My body is ok, we have a few days in between, so hopefully, it should be ok,” said Rohit while speaking at the post-match presentation.

Rohit then heaped praises on his batting unit for their spectacular performance. He lauded batter Suryakumar Yadav, who went on to play a match-winning 76-run knock to help India win the contest.

“And then how we chased. It was quite clinical. When you watch it from the outside, you felt there wasn’t much risk taken. It is very important that if you get a start in this format, you should convert it. It does well for the team. The 30s and 40s look good, but when you get past 70-80 and get a hundred as well, then you’re scoring those runs for the team—good partnership with Iyer. When you are chasing a target like that, anything can happen. It was not an easy target, and the pitch had something for the bowlers. It was important for us to pick the right shots off the right balls,” Rohit added.
