Alex Hales and Jos Buttler put on a show with the bat as England annihilated India by ten wickets in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday (November 10).

Put in to bat first, India posted 168/6 on the board in their stipulated overs. Hardik Pandya (63 off 33 balls) and Virat Kohli (50 off 40 balls) scored half-centuries, while the remaining batters KL Rahul (5), Rohit Sharma (27), Suryakumar Yadav (14) and Rishabh Pant (6) could not contribute much to the team’s total.

Wrist-spinner Adil Rashid was the stand-out bowler for England, picking up the prized wicket of Suryakumar and conceding only 20 runs in his full quota of four overs.

Chasing 160 for victory, England reached the finish line without breaking a sweat. The duo of Hales and Buttler smashed Indian bowlers to parts of the ground, sharing an unbeaten 170-run stand to overhaul the target with four overs to spare. This was a record partnership for any wicket in Men’s T20I World Cup matches.

‘Man of the Match’ Hales remained not out on 86 off 47 balls, while captain Buttler finished with an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls.
