Bangladesh‘s campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023 have been nothing short of disastrous as the side stand at the bottom of the points table with just one win out of the seven matches played so far.

The Shakib Al Hasan-led side have already been eliminated from the ongoing tournament and are now eyeing to secure their spot in the forthcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Adding to the Bangla Tigers’ woes, one of their star batters has left the side and flown back to his home country.

Litton Das returns home

Litton Das, a pivotal part of Bangladesh’s squad, has returned to his country due to family reasons. Although the precise reason for his comeback remains undisclosed, reports suggest that the right-handed batter is expected to be accessible for their forthcoming game against Sri Lanka, slated for November 6 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

According to reports, Litton and his wife are anticipating the arrival of their first child, which could be the reason for the Dinajpur-born cricketer’s mid-term departure.

Bangladesh Cricket Board’s media and communications manager, Rabeed Imam, also serving as the team’s manager for the ongoing World Cup confirmed the news of Litton’s departure.

“Due to his family emergency, Liton took a leave and will join the team ahead of the teams’ training session scheduled on November 3 in Delhi,” said Rabeed as quoted by The Daily Star.

Litton’s performance in ODI World Cup 2023

Despite Bangladesh’s lacklustre performance, Litton has performed well with the willow. The 29-year-old has scored 225 runs in seven innings, making him the second-highest scorer for his side in the ongoing cricket carnival.

While Bangladesh’s upcoming two matches against Sri Lanka and Australia may be considered inconsequential in advancing to the next round, it’s important to note that the clashes still hold significance, as a victory in these fixtures can influence their tournament standings.
