The ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023 witnessed two thrilling encounters take place on Saturday (July 15). The doubleheader concluded with Bangladesh emerging victorious against Oman by eight wickets in the fifth match of the tournament and Afghanistan registering a close win over Sri Lanka in the sixth match.

Speaking of the fifth match, asked to bat first, Oman had a challenging outing as they were bowled out for 126 runs in 46 overs. Ayaan Khan top-scored for his team with 26 runs off 47 balls. Meanwhile, Shubo Pal (25) and Shoaib Khan (23) also contributed to Oman’s total. Tanzim Hasan Sakib was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, claiming an impressive four-fer for 18 runs in the nine overs he bowled. Rakibul Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan Joy chipped in with two wickets as well.

In reply, Bangladesh comfortably reached their target in just 16.3 overs with eight wickets in hand. Tanzid Hasan was the star of the innings, scoring a brilliant 68 runs off 49 deliveries. Tanzid was well supported by Mohammad Naim, who contributed 47 runs off 42 balls in the run chase. Aqib Ilyas was the only successful bowler for Oman, claiming two wickets.

In the end, Bangladesh eventually emerged victorious by eight wickets with 197 balls to spare. Tanzid’s impressive innings earned him the well-deserved ‘Player of the Match’ award.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka invited Afghanistan to bat first in the match no. 6 of the ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023. The decision of the Islanders didn’t work out well, as Afghanistan successfully posted a competitive total of 252/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Riaz Hassan was the standout performer for the Afghan side, scoring a well-crafted 82 runs off 104 deliveries. Noor Ali Zadran also made a valuable contribution with 53 runs off 62 balls. Chamika Karunaratne picked three wickets among Sri Lankan bowlers, while Lahiru Samarakoon and Dushan Hemantha chipped in with two scalps each.

Chasing a target of 253, Sri Lanka started their innings on a shaky note, losing opener Avishka Fernando for a duck. However, Minod Bhanuka played a magnificent innings and scored a brilliant 119 runs off 103 deliveries. Unfortunately, his efforts went in vain as wickets kept falling at regular intervals from the other end. Ibrahim Abdulrahimzai was the standout bowler for Afghanistan, bagging an impressive four wickets. Despite a valiant effort from Bhanuka and Dushan Hemantha (31 runs), Sri Lanka fell short of the target in the end, losing all their wickets for 241 runs in 38.5 overs.

Although Bhanuka ended up on the losing side, he was awarded the Player of the Match award in recognition of his outstanding century.
