A noteworthy development for Bangladesh is the appointment of left-handed batter Najmul Hossain Shanto as the captain for the Test series. This marks Shanto’s debut as the leader of the Test side, drawing on his prior experience of captaining the team during the CWC 2023 in India when Shakib Al Hasan was sidelined due to injury.
Player absences for Bangladesh
However, Bangladesh will face challenges due to the absence of key players. Pacer Taskin Ahmed is sidelined with a shoulder injury, embarking on a rehabilitation journey. Regular Test skipper Shakib is also unavailable after sustaining a finger injury during the World Cup clash against Sri Lanka.
New Zealand’s squad update
Tim Southee will lead the Kiwi side, featuring prominent names like Devon Conway and Kane Williamson. After an impressive performance in the World Cup 2023, Rachin Ravindra returns to the Test squad, adding depth to the team.
