Star all-rounder Andre Russell, often hailed as one of the finest in the game, added another feather to his cap by notching his 400th dismissal in T20 cricket during this match. The Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Riders got off to a strong start, amassing 41 runs within 5.4 overs. Despite losing two quick wickets, they posted an imposing total of 194 runs in their allotted 20 overs, courtesy of a stellar century by Martin Guptill and a formidable 108-run partnership with Kieron Pollard.

Russell’s energetic outburst upon completing 400 wickets in T20 cricket

In response, the Royals struggled significantly with the bat, crumbling under the relentless pressure applied by the Riders’ bowlers. Wickets began tumbling right from the very first ball of their innings. Russell made a significant impact in the opening delivery of the Royals’ innings, securing the vital wicket of Rakheem Cornwall. Russell bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that moved slightly away from outside off, tempting Cornwall to flick it across the line. The ball just grazed the outside edge, and Dwayne Bravo took an exceptional catch at slip. Cornwall departed without contributing to the score. Russell’s jubilation was evident after achieving his 400th wicket in T20 cricket, as he celebrated with chest-beating and later embraced his fellow teammates in happiness.

Russell wasn’t done yet; he picked up another wicket in the same over by dismissing Kyle Mayers without Mayers contributing a single run to the scoreboard. The Royals found themselves in an inescapable predicament after losing these early wickets, and their innings continued to unravel. Consequently, the Royals were bundled out for a mere 61 runs in 12.1 overs, handing the Riders their most significant victory of the season.

Russell’s performance with the ball was nothing short of remarkable, claiming three pivotal wickets that systematically dismantled the Royals’ batting lineup. He concluded the game with figures of 3/13.
