This year’s men’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 event is scheduled to unfold in the United States of America (USA) and the West Indies throughout June, immediately following the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Speculation on T20 World Cup 2024 Squad

Amidst the ever-changing form and performances of players during the current IPL season, discussions and speculations regarding their potential inclusion in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup have intensified. Despite the tournament being nearly two months away, fans and experts have already begun scrutinizing India’s team composition.

Stephen Fleming’s endorsement for a CSK player

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming recently voiced his endorsement for Shivam Dube‘s inclusion in Team India’s squad for the upcoming global showpiece event. Emphasizing Dube’s prowess in power-hitting, Fleming highlighted the significant value he could bring to the Indian team during the ICC tournament. Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the Mumbai Indians (MI) game on Sunday, Fleming shared his views on Dube’s potential selection, acknowledging the challenges faced by Indian selectors.

“Yeah, I would have him in the side. Yeah. Well, I love his power. I’m biased, aren’t I? But I think when you have something (power) like that… [I would take him]. It’s probably one of the hardest jobs in world cricket, isn’t it? Being an Indian selector on one hand, very jealous as a New Zealander, looking at the amount of talent that is on the show and new players every game sort of pops up,” Fleming said.

Current season’s form

Dube has been displaying remarkable form with the bat in the IPL over the past few years. In the previous season, he amassed 418 runs in 16 games for CSK at an impressive strike rate of 158.33. This season, the left-handed batter has continued his fine form, accumulating 176 runs in five games at a strike rate of 160. The all-rounder also showcased his batting prowess during the T20 series against Afghanistan in January, where he scored 124 runs across three innings at a strike rate of 158.97. His stellar performance earned him the Player of the Match award in the first game and the Player of the Series accolade, further bolstering his credentials for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
