Bangladesh scripted history after defeating England in the third and final T20I at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday. It was the first time that Bangladesh had beaten England in a series in any format.

Put to bat first, Bangladesh managed to reach 158/2, with opener Litton Das smashing a brilliant half-century. Litton was the standout performer, scoring 73 off 57 deliveries with the help of ten fours and one six. Apart from the veteran batter, Najmul Hussain Shanto also shined with the bat, staying unbeaten on 47 off 36 balls, with the help of one four and two sixes.

In response, the World T20 champions lost Philip Salt early but recovered quickly thanks to Dawid Malan and skipper Jos Buttler. The duo took the team total to 100 by adding 95 runs for the first wicket as England were looking well and truly set to chase down the target.

However, the hosts came back in the game after removing Malan for a well-made 53 from 47 deliveries, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. Malan’s dismissal triggered a major collapse as the English side could only reach 142/6 in 20 overs to lose the contest by 16 runs.

After the game, Buttler congratulated Bangladesh and admitted that the Tigers completely outplayed the T20 World Champions. Buttler said they missed some opportunities on the field and was hoping the team could chase the target down but it didn’t happen.

“Really disappointing to lose the series, congratulations to Bangladesh, they outplayed us completely. We came back well (at the death), we missed some opportunities in the field which is disappointing. The wicket got better as it went on and I thought we did well to restrict them to the total we did. We hoped we could chase it down but it didn’t happen. Losing two wickets quickly was crucial. Very disappointed in myself for not diving and being fully committed to completing that run,” said Buttler in the post-match presentation.
