New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi grabbed one of the finest catches on his own bowling in the third T20I against India on Sunday. He dismissed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma on 56 at the latter’s favourite hunting ground – the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The incident took place in the 12th over of the first innings when Rohit tried to hit Sodhi’s delivery straight down the ground, but the Black Caps’ spinner showed great reflexes and took a brilliant one-handed catch.
Rohit was left stunned with Sodhi’s brilliance and quitely walked back to the dugout.

After opting to bat first, India posted a total of 184/7 on the board in their stipulated 20 overs. Rohit and Ishan Kishan gave their side a flying start and added 69 runs for the opening wicket. New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santer proved his mettle by taking three important wickets of Ishan, Surya Kumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant.
Rohit completed his half-century in just 31 balls, whereas Shreyas Iyer (25), Venkatesh Iyer (20), Harshal Patel (18) and Deepak Chahar’s contribution (21* off 8) took India to a solid total.
In reply, New Zealand got bundled out for 111. Only Martin Guptill played a promising knock for his team, before being dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal.
India won the match by 73 runs and whitewashed the opposition (3-0) in the three-match series.
For his consistent performance in the T20I series, Indian captain and opening batter Rohit was awarded the ‘Player of the Series’. On the other hand, Axar Patel – who bagged three wickets in three overs – won the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
