Legendary South African cricketer AB de Villiers has joined the discourse sparked by veteran broadcaster Harsha Bhogle‘s unconventional viewpoint regarding individual milestones in T20I cricket. De Villiers’ response came in the wake of a controversy surrounding Hardik Pandya‘s decision to hit a six, denying young batter Tilak Varma an opportunity to reach his half-century in the 3rd T20I between India and the West Indies.

It isn’t a landmark, in fact other than a century (which is rare), there are no landmarks in T20 cricket. We are far too obsessed with individual achievement within a team sport. I don’t believe 50s should be recorded in individual stats in T20 cricket. If you have made enough runs quickly enough (avg and SR), that is all that matters.”

De Villiers echoed Bhogle’s sentiments
