De Villiers emphasized that the leading run-getter in the ODI World Cup would be determined by the form and performance of the players as they head into the tournament.
“It’s a tough one. I am not really sure. There are a lot of guys that can do it. We look at guys who are in form – Babar, Kane Williamson. Obviously, Virat will be up there somewhere along the line. Virat absolutely loves 50-over cricket. His name will be up there for sure,” remarked the Proteas legend when asked about his prediction for the leading run-scorer of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 by one of his fans.
Notably, the 2019 World Cup’s leading run-scorer was Indian opener Rohit Sharma, who amassed a staggering 648 runs in nine matches at an average of 81, including five centuries.
