David Warner’s wife Candice was offered a personal security guard by Cricket Australia (CA) after the ex-ironwoman revealed that she faced vile abuse from a group of drunk fans at the Adelaide Oval last week.

After the end of Australia’s thumping win over West Indies in the Adelaide Test, CA officials contacted Candice over a phone call in order to provide her private security at this weekend’s first Test against South Africa at the Gabba in Brisbane.

“It was just at about midday, I was at home and I got the call just saying, ‘look, we don’t want you or your family to feel unsafe at the cricket, we know how much your support means to David (Warner) and the team, this is what we’d like to offer’,” Candice said on Triple M – an Australian commercial radio network.

“And I just said, ‘look, it’s unnecessary, I don’t need an escort, I’m very independent, I stick up for myself’. But it’s more about the safety of all the players and their partners and family and just everyone in general.

“I want everyone to be able to go to the cricket – because it’s such a great day out – and feel safe, and feel like they can be there without being attacked.”

Candice cleared stated that her ugly run-in at the Adelaide Oval had nothing to do with her embattled husband.

“It’s got nothing to do with Dave. It’s about my past and it’s about me,” she added.

“So, anyone that’s out there that’s wanting to heckle me on social media – it is not about David. This was a personal attack on me.

“But going forward with Cricket Australia, as a mum of three daughters, it;s paramount that their safety is paramount.

“So, that’s what they’ve offered. It’s not going to be me walking around with an escort; that’s not the case at all.

“If, at times, I’m moving around the stadium – I think day one is going to be a sell-out – if, at any stage, I feel like I need that (security protection), then I’ve got a phone number I can call. As does everyone else; it’s not just special attention for myself or the Warners at all.”
