During the seventh game of the ODI World Cup 2023 held in Dharmashala, England‘s Reece Topley delivered an extraordinary bowling performance, securing the wickets of three batters from Bangladesh within the powerplay. His deliveries were nothing short of magical, creating a precarious situation for Bangladesh in their challenging run chase.

Facing a daunting target of 365, Bangladesh encountered a tough start, losing two wickets in just two overs, reducing them to 14/2 on the scoreboard. Topley was the mastermind behind this early damage.

Shakib al Hasan left helpless by Reece Topley’s mesmerizing ball

During the fifth over, Topley unleashed a delivery that left no one but the Bangladesh captain, Shakib Al Hasan, in complete bewilderment. This delivery pitched and maintained its line, outfoxing Shakib, who was committed to the front foot but completely missed the ball. Consequently, the off stump suffered a decisive blow, and even Topley himself couldn’t hide his astonishment, which was clearly evident from his surprised expression.

England’s innings

In the first innings of the match, Bangladesh bowlers faced a significant challenge in containing England’s destructive batting lineup. Although they managed to make a comeback in the last 10 overs, Bangladesh couldn’t prevent the defending champions from reaching the imposing total of 364/9 in their allotted 50 overs. This was achieved due an impressive 115-run partnership for the opening wicket between Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow, followed by another substantial partnership of 151 runs between Malan and Joe Root.
