In the dynamic landscape of Indian cricket, Rinku Singh has emerged as a standout name, drawing attention for his explosive performances in both the IPL and the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia. The right-handed batter is rapidly establishing himself as a potent force in contemporary cricket, particularly as a reliable finisher. His consistency and powerful batting displays with the bat have earned him acclaim for his ability to close out matches effectively.

However, despite acknowledging the 26-year-old’s proficiency as a lower-order finisher, former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra also recognizes that the young cricketer possesses a skill set that transcends the confines of that specific role of a finisher. Nehra’s perspective underscores the belief that Rinku has the potential to make significant contributions across various facets of the game, showcasing versatility beyond his role as a late-inning dynamo.

‘This is not the first time he has done it’: Ashish Nehra on Rinku Singh

Talking about Rinku’s classy finishing cameos against the Aussies in the first and second T20I, Nehra commended the Aligarh-born cricketer’s consistent impactful performances, highlighting his power and all-round contributions to the team. Acknowledging his potential, the former Indian pacer suggested that Rinku could extend his influence to ODI cricket in the future.

“This is not the first time he (Rinku) has done it. We all have been discussing his role, his power. Not just about his batting, even with the way he throws himself on the field, it shows he is a great team man. He will be a great asset to Indian cricket. Yes, we are talking only about T20 cricket, but who knows tomorrow he can also be playing ODI cricket,” Nehra remarked while speaking on JioCinema.

‘I hope he doesn’t want to be tagged himself as a finisher’: Ashish Nehra

Nehra emphasized the unpredictability of cricket, stating that on any given day, the Indian team might find itself in a challenging position. He expressed the hope that Rinku will be versatile enough by not restricting himself to a specific role of a finisher, and excel in all facets of the game.

“On any odd day, the Indian team can be 40 for 4 in 5-6 overs. And I hope Rinku Singh is ready to play any role, I hope he doesn’t want to be tagged himself as a finisher. He should be looking to excel in all departments,” the 44-year-old added to his comments.
