After bowlers dominated the opening day in the ongoing first Test between England and New Zealand at Lords Cricket Ground in London, batters put up a good show on the second day of the match. The pair of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell shined with the willow to put the visitors in control of the proceedings.
New Zealand were again in a spot of bother having lost four wickets for just 56 in their second innings. However, Mitchell and Blundell came to the rescue and went on to stitch an unbeaten 180-run partnership for the fifth wicket to put Black Caps on top. At stumps on Day 2, Mitchell and Blundell were batting on 97 and 90, respectively, as New Zealand managed to take a massive 227-run lead heading into Day 3.
Earlier, England resumed their overnight score of 116/7 and only managed to take a narrow 9-run lead as they were bowled out for 141.
New Zealand 132 and 236/4 (Mitchell 97*, Blundell 90*) lead England 141 (Crawley 43, Southee 4/55) by 227 runs.

New Zealand seem to have turned the tables on England through the fantastic partnership between Blundell and Mitchell. What a Test match this is turning out to be!

The ongoing #EngvNZ Test has highlighted the key difference between a raging turner and a seamer-friendly pitch on Day-1…the former keeps getting tougher to bat and the latter allows batters to contribute significantly as the match progresses.

227 the lead at stumps on Day 2 at Lord’s. Tom Blundell and @dazmitchell47 highlight the batting effort with an unbeaten 180-run 5th wicket partnership 🏏#ENGvNZ pic.twitter.com/bGpdtWyu7p

Blundell and Mitchell (180*) need 37 more runs to achieve the highest ever 5th wicket partnership in a men’s Test at Lord’s.
If they did this, they’d eclipse Border & Ritchie for 🇦🇺 in 1985 who took the score from 101/4 to 317/5.

Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell batting so beautifully on a ‘poor’ pitch. Lord’s can bring the best out of you. Ask Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohd Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Graham Gooch and many more… Do we still say it is not a Test pitch? Mitchell and Blundell don’t think so ❤️

What a remarkable fightback by New Zealand, led by Tom Blundell and Daryl Mitchell.
Lead by just 47 runs, with 6 wickets in hand then Blundell 90* and Mitchell 97* made unbeaten 180 runs for the 5th wicket at Lord’s – A day to remember for Kiwis. pic.twitter.com/F3h8yVFy1Y

I wake up to go to work expecting garbage, yet I am full of joy. Absolute brilliance from Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell, hopefully they both get onto the honours board tomorrow.

Daryl Mitchell – Tom Blundell 🏏
What an incredible stand it’s been. Backs up against the wall, with the innings teetering at 56/4 & lead by 47. This 180 run stand really kept us in the hunt this Test. Hope Daz & Blundell etch their names onto the Lord’s Honors Boards tomorrow pic.twitter.com/C6Ewbs9zio

I watched the day and the best part of it was the way Mitchell and Blundell dismantled the short-pitch barrage. Both have brilliant pull shots. #ENGvNZ
