In a sensational second qualifier match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, the Guyana Amazon Warriors showcased their cricketing skills, thrashing the Jamaica Tallawahs by a staggering 81 runs to book their spot in the Caribbean Premier league (CPL) 2023 final. Leading the charge for the Warriors was Pakistan’ Azam Khan, who exhibited remarkable batting skills and took on the opposition bowlers with sheer force, including his compatriot, Mohammad Amir.

The Warriors got off to a solid start during their batting powerplay, accumulating a commendable 49 runs with just one wicket down. However, as the innings progressed, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer found it challenging to inject the much-needed attacking impetus.

Just when it appeared that Hope and Hetmyer were gearing up to accelerate the innings, Hope was caught on the boundary after scoring a valuable 40 runs. Shortly thereafter, Hetmyer followed suit, departing for 31. Azam making his entrance to the crease at 92-3 in the 13th over, unleashed a spectacular onslaught, amassing an electrifying 54 runs in just 45 deliveries.

Azam Khan’s dazzling assault on Amir

In the pivotal 19th over of the CPL 2023 qualifier, Azam showcased his extraordinary batting talent with a stunning display of power-hitting against the seasoned Amir. It all began with a simple flick of his wrist on the third delivery, propelling the ball effortlessly over midwicket for a colossal, flat six.

Amir, recognizing the threat posed by Khan, attempted to outfox him with a yorker on the very next ball. Nevertheless, the delivery ended up being wide, but Khan masterfully managed to make contact with the ball, sending it racing away to the third man boundary. The following delivery saw Khan’s incredible aggression as he skilfully heaved the ball over deep backward point, dispatching it for yet another towering six. His masterful wristwork and precision propelled his side’s to 182-6 in their allotted 20 overs.
