In an electrifying opening match of the Men’s Asian Games 2023, Nepal shattered multiple records in a stunning display of attacking cricket against Mongolia. The Nepalese batters left spectators in awe as they achieved a historic milestone by posting an unprecedented total of 314/3 on the scoreboard.
Nepal’s innings rewrote the record books, as they surpassed Afghanistan‘s previous T20 cricket high of 278/3 against Ireland in Dehradun in February 2019. This remarkable feat also equaled Czech Republic‘s record of 278/4 against Turkey in Ilfov County later that year.
Dipendra Singh Airee and Kushal Malla shine
Dipendra Singh Airee and Kushal Malla emerged as the heroes of Nepal’s spectacular batting display. Malla, in particular, etched his name in the annals of T20 cricket history by achieving his maiden T20 International century in a mere 34 deliveries. This remarkable feat makes it the fastest century in the format, surpassing the 35-ball tons achieved by renowned cricketers such as South Africa’s David Miller, India’s Rohit Sharma, and Czech Republic’s Sudesh Wickramsekara.

Airee was no less impressive, kickstarting the run-fest with the fastest fifty in T20 cricket. He entered the crease after the fall of the third wicket in the 18.1 over and proceeded to smash eight of the ten balls he faced over the ropes. This extraordinary performance eclipsed the previous record set by Yuvraj Singh, who reached his fifty in 12 balls during the 2007 T20 World Cup match against England.
Here is how Airee reached to his explosive fifty:
- 18.2: Altankhuyag to Airee, good length, batter smacked it over mid-wicket for a SIX.
- 18.3: Altankhuyag to Airee, drifting down the leg, Airee sent it over square leg for a SIX.
- 18.4: Altankhuyag to Airee, round the wicket pitched at a good length, batter again slammed it over mid-wicket for a SIX.
- 18.5: Altankhuyag to Airee, too short outside leg, Airee whacked it over square leg for a SIX.
- 18.6: Altankhuyag to Airee, in the slot, Airee smacked it in the cow-corner for a SIX.
- 19.2: Erdenebulgan to Airee, full-toss, batter hit it over deep mid-wicket for a SIX.
- 19.3: Erdenebulgan to Airee, 2 runs.
- 19.4: Erdenebulgan to Airee, another full-toss (low one), Airee made a good connection to whack it for a SIX.
- 19.5: Erdenebulgan to Airee, short, outside off, Airee put it over the square region for another maximum.
